Abbe James- Photographer

Abbe James ( 1883-1973)

James Abbe was born in 1883 in Alfred, Maine. He traveled throughout Europe as a young photojournalist recording the unstable power struggles of the early 20th century. However, he first made a name for himself photographing movie stars in New York, Paris, and London throughout the 1920’s and 1930’s. Most of his well known black and white photos are that of celebrities portraying the “lure of the limelight.” His unusual technique of not doing his work in his studio, set him apart from other photographers of this time period, and changed the way the world viewed publicity stills. To make money, Abbe sold his photographs to magazines like “Vogue” and “Vanity Fair”. Mainly because of this, media induced celebrity was brought about. 


Jamme Abbe's choice of a simple, uncluttered backdrop and soft use of lighting accentuates the seductiveness of Gilda Gray, a dancer in Ziegfield Follies and other Broadway revues. Like many fashion photographs of its time, it promotes a feeling that we are privy to something intimate - as if Gray has been captured unawares, dreamily caught up in her own thoughts with her eyes turned away from the lens. Taken in Paris in 1924, the photograph seizes the essence of mid -1920s eveningwear- a plumb  line dress, possibly by Lanvin or Patou, in filmy sensuous fabric trimmed with fingered tiers. In the early twentieth century, American photographer James Abbe favoured taking portraits of stage and screen actresses. His well-mannered work for American Vogue represented what Alexander Liberman called " ...an underlying dream of a world where poeple act and behave in civilized manner"

After gaining some public notice Abbe began submitting his work to some major publications including “London Magazine” and “IllustrireZeitung.” These were used as early prototypes for “LIFE Magazine” andhelped in the creation of the phrase ‘candids’ or, lengthy stories with multiple photographs.Abbe also took photographs during the Spanish Civil War and the Nazi’s rise in Germany. Also, his well-known portrait of Joseph Stalin was used to stop rumor about the Soviet Union.

Abbe’s book, I Photograph Russia was published in 1934. This work includes eighty photographs taken by Abbe. In Alice R. and Sol B. Frank Photography Galleries, there is a James Abbe Photographer exhibit that is on display through November 5, 2000.With this exhibition there is also a catalogue that includes texts by Brooks Johnson, and Terence Pepper.

His son, also named James Abbe, also was a photographer who worked for Harper's Bazaar.

How wonderful day! I had an amazing dream last night and wish it will come true one day kk:P ( finger crossed:)

When i was in library i found  an amazing book- THE FASHION BOOK. From now on, i will introduce these amazing people:)

Korean Dramas1 :)

I know that people think that Korean Dramas are waste of times and useless, but for me their acting is the best and even their story is similar, long sad, i dunno why, i still loved it.  And i really like Hyun Bin :D Cause there is one person that always remind me when i see him:)

Here are some suggestions^^
I've recently watched one Korean Drama - Secret Garden  and i wanted to share the osts:) Hope you like it and i will review the drama soon:)

These songs are really touching and whenever songs come into the movie, i just felt more sad and really touched...
Hope you guys will like it and i will update with korean dramas that i like it:) ( i am such a korean drama addicted:P )

Hey hey:)

It's been long time that i did not update my blog..:( There were many things happened this days.

1. I finished my high school/pre university :)) ( 2nd time that finishing high school :D)
2. I had my little own fashion show:)
3. I am going to ...:D  ( will updtade very soon)
4. Many things...

I dont really know what to write hehe..Well. now it's almost time to leave Hong Kong, in 1 and half month. I might not come back to Hong Kong within 10 years. IN some point i am happy to leaving and done with high school, but also same time, i am sad that leaving this amazing place. Eventhough i had many works, school and bad staff, but still it has been my home since i left hy home 2 years ago...Also i won't be able to see some of my friends in 10 years( till 10 year reunion)...

When time goes by, weather, and school and everything, just felt like it's summer already and my mind is completely in Mongolia..
I've planned everything what will happen during the summer holiday in 3 months in Mongolia.

1. I will get my driving license / so that i can drive during the summer :P /
2. I will travel in countrysides with my family and grandpa
3. I will learn at least 2 languages. Spanish and Korean, if its possible improve my Russian:)
4. I will go to dancing club( learn new dances and make some friends:)
5. Meet my friends for sure:P
6. Stay with my Grandpa. lil bro and new born my lil bro:) ( cant wait to see him)
7. And leave to US...

I hope my summer will be great and enjoyable, cause its actually my really last summer that i can be a teenager girl and not to worry about everything..

Now, my final IB exams are coming super soon and i am in study leave now. So probably i won't be able to update this blog as well:(  But i wll try my best to update with some newses:)
